A new mobile TIP-TITE Drum Dumper with safety cage (photo) allows hands-free, automated dumping of bulk solid materials from 30- to 55-gal (115- to 200-L) drums throughout the plant, with no dusting or danger associated with sudden shifting of contents. The three-sided carbon-steel cage, with safety interlocked doors, is mounted on a mobile frame with quick-acting jack screws for stability. A platform raises the drum hydraulically, creating a dust-tight seal between the rim of the drum and the underside of a discharge cone. A second hydraulic cylinder then tips the platform-hood assembly, stopping it at dump angles of 45, 60 or 90 deg with a motion-dampening feature, causing the spout of the discharge cone to mate with a gasketed receiving ring on the lid of an enclosed hopper that charges a flexible screw conveyor. A pneumatically-actuated slide gate at the spout can be opened once the discharge cone has sealed to the receiving ring to discharge material, and then closed before returning the drum to its original position, with no dust emitted throughout the cycle. — Flexicon Corp., Bethlehem, Pa.

Targo-Vent (photo) is an opening angle limiter, developed for use with this company’s Explosion Panels, which guides the pressure relief specifically into areas in which there is no danger to the adjoining infrastructure. Targo-Vent absorbs the enormous repulsive forces of explosion energy and guides the flames and shockwave in the desired direction. Depending on the particular application and associated equipment, the flames and shockwave are diverted at a defined angle of approximately 30–45 deg upwards or to the side so facility operators can minimize the safety areas around the vent opening. The usable area is increased. The system is made of maintenance-free stainless-steel materials and, in combination with Explosion Panels, is type-tested in accordance with the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX 114), authorized in accordance with (FSA 13 ATEX 1637) and fully conforms to NFPA Standards. — Rembe Inc., Charlotte, N.C.
The Double Planetary Mixer (photo) is suitable for high-precision mixing, granulation and vacuum drying all in a single vessel. Powders and granules are gently blended by two rectangular planetary blades that rotate on their own axes while orbiting the mixing zone on a common axis.
